Join us at Perry Lake State Park this year and find out what all the "buzz" is about. Trail running will challenge you, humble you and just might help you feel like a kid again. When we started the Rock Creek Trail Series in 2007 our goal was two-fold. One, to introduce new runners, as well as road runners looking for a new challenge, to the sport of trail running. Secondly, we also wanted to produce high quality events that would attract some of the best trail runners from across the Midwest. We have been truly blessed and inspired by the response we have gotten these first two years. Runners of all ages that are new to the sport, now claim it as their own. Training groups are building true trail communities in our part of the state. We have seen several of these runners start out in the spring with our 10K, work hard throughout the year and come back in October to run their first ultra marathon - in many cases before they ever ran a marathon! Some of the region's top trail and ultra runners came out to tackle the rugged trails of Perry Lake State Park. Last year runners from sixteen states joined us. As we move into 2009 our goal remains the same. To do everything we can as a race organization to grow the sport of trail running and server the members of its community by offering high quality events that are challenging but staged in a fun atmosphere. We hope you'll join us out at Lake Perry this year for another season of stomping through puddles jumping over logs and by the way did I mention the burritos? Willie Lambert 2009 RACE SCHEDULE

NEW RACE NIGHTOne of my favorite things about running longer races is getting to run at night. Nothing will make your senses come more alive than running through the woods in the dark with only a headlamp to light the way. Last May during a nighttime training run for one of these races, some friends who had never run in the dark joined me at Lake Perry for a few miles of nocturnal fun. They loved it, and thus the concept of this year's night race was born. Join us this July for our inaugural Late Night at Lake Perry event. FREE TRAIL CLINICJoin us at Berkshire Athletic Club on Thursday, February 26th at 7:00 pm for a discussion on the Rock Creek Trail Series and trail running. At this free clinic Great Plains Running Co. will discuss footwear, gear, nutrition, and training. In addition we are excited to have Rebound Physical Therapy join us to discuss how you can improve your odds at staying injury free. Then on Saturday, February 28th join us on the Governor's trails for a little fun run. We will meet in the upper parking lot at 7:45 AM and get running by 8:00 AM. Please call GPRC at 785-215-8600 with your questions and to RSVP for both events. |
